Into Girona

What a nice walk today. Virtually no pavement till the outskirts of Girona. The walk went through wheat fields

And lots of nice scrub oak woods

It seems cooler than yesterday but maybe that's because there was so much shade. And having a few strategically placed fountains in shaded squares was also a real treat.

I was in the tourist office in Girona by about 1:10. Upon learning that the Romanesque cloister of Sant Pere de Galligants closed at 2 and wouldn't re-open because it's Sunday, I decided to go to the pension, drop off my pack, change out of my boots and hurry over to to see if I could make it in time. My lucky day!  Beautiful church and cloister. I especially liked the mermaid capital.

I was also able to see the Creation Tapestry, woven in the early 1100s. I remembered it from 1995, and it is just as jaw-dropping today.

Girona is a very pretty city. I've had time to walk around the old part a bit.  Later today I'll meet up with the president of the Girona Camino Association. He gave me lots of email help with my figuring out this camino. He wants to show me the way out of town. It's not marked because his association is fighting with the government about the "false camino" that I'm walking. As a result, nothing is marked!

Tomorrow it's a long 37 km. I'll probably leave as close to 6 as my aging body will allow!  Out to explore a bit more of Gurona. I realize about a million times a day how lucky I am to be doing this!
